Waterfowl
Eurasian Woodcock
Scolopax rusticola
Description
The Eurasian woodcock is the emblem of European wing shooting, prized for its twisting, zigzag flight through timber. Evening roding flights in spring migration, afternoon flightlines and drive hunts are the traditional methods; the bird also represents a classic key species in Central and Eastern European hunting culture. Pointing dog work makes woodcock hunting an art as much as a sport.
